Wizard of Oz Graphic Novel

Wizard of Oz Graphic Novel
http://lizzthelibrarian.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/reading-now-wonderful-wizard-of-oz.html
I've been researching different styles of illustration in graphic novels and storybooks. I have been looking at two main styles of watercolour and also collage, because I am going to pick between those styles for my narratives book. The use of colour is limited to greens, browns, and oranges which adds a unique style to the book and could be a good idea to look into for my own book.

Long Tail Kitty By Lark Pien

Long Tail Kitty By Lark Pien
http://www.stackedbooks.org/2011/04/long-tail-kitty-by-lark-pien.html
Although this graphic novel is for kids I still think adults can enjoy it too. The illustrations albeit simple are still expressive and the kitty is full of character. The use of a limited colour palette helps to make sure the focus is on the story and also the plain white background makes the characters stand out more. Pien uses watercolour which is a style I tried out for my own book. 'Long Tail Kitty (Blue Apple Books, 2009) is an all-ages collection of stories about the titular long-tailed kitty and his friends. He encounters a grumpy bee in a field of flowers and a mouse skating on a frozen pond. He makes dinner for his friends and hangs out with three little aliens.' Comicsgirl » Review: Long Tail Kitty. 2012. Comicsgirl » Review: Long Tail Kitty. Gemma Correll

Gemma Correll
Gemma Correll has a satirical side to her illustrations. She often uses a limited colour palette, which means the focus is on her illustration. She mainly draws pugs and cats and sometimes humans.

Lana Del Rey Pop Art

Lana Del Rey Pop Art
This image is reminiscent of Andy Warhol, due to its distinctive use of colour. It is a piece of fan art taken from http://www.fanpop.com/clubs/lana-del-rey/images/30432517/title/lana-fanart-fanart accessed 09/11/12. I'm a fan of Lana Del Rey and I think she writes some amazing lyrics. The style of the image is Pop Art, signified by the simplistic red colour background. The red lips echo the red background and help bring the image together.

Screen printing induction

Screen Printing Induction
First I mixed the paints for my two colour screen print. I decided to use black and a brick red.
I printed the red first and then printed the black on the acetate as a guide so I could line the screen print for the second colour.
Then I printed the black
This is my finished two colour screen print

Newcastle Trip

Newcastle Trip

On the way we stopped off at the angel of the north

I went on an overnight trip to Newcastle with my visual communication course. We visited the Baltic which sadly was pretty empty, and also got the chance to roam around town I visited China town, saw grey’s monument and got a great feel for the city. I had dinner in a lovely Mongolian restaurant. We stayed in a great youth hostel called the albatross. The next day we went to Tynemouth beach but sadly the weather was really bad and started hailing so we hid out in a cafe and had lunch, then we left early due to the bad weather.
