Craig Ward

Craig Ward
His design in way distorts the typography, however it is still easy to read. It was created by tracing parts of Didot typeface with a fountain pen and dripping water onto it.

This piece by Craig Ward shows how bad typography is more obvious to the viewer, and that to be good typography you shouldn't have to think about it. The use of white type and white background makes the red type stand out more, which exaggerates how bad the red type is,  which is what the artist wants. The use of very light shadow around the white type makes it readable.

Things I like/slightly obsessed with

Things I like/slightly obsessed with

I adore Emma Bridgewater Pottery. This baby mug is part of her new range made exclusively for Liberty. It is a slightly more unusual style and colour compared to her usual pottery which has more repetitive patterns and motifs with more muted colours. The mug is 7cm x 7.5cm. I like the almost metallic and iridescent  nature of the paint. The item comes in a matching box. Also in the range are serving bowls and large dishes and jugs.

I'm also slightly obsessed with Cath Kidston, I her use of floral prints. This travel bag has a lightweight oilcloth finish which is handy because it makes the bag waterproof yet not too heavy to carry around. This is the perfect weekend bag. There is a bag for every occasion from the very small to the large suitcase, in every style imaginable from dotty patterns to floral prints to coloured leather, and also in a variety of finishes such as cotton, oilcloth and leather

Zine

Zine

My group decided to make our zine based around stereotypes and first impressions, with each person focusing on a different thing to base first impressions on such as shoes or hair. I decided to do my pages based around first impressions of cars and imagining what I thought the car owner would look like. Here are some photos of my zine:

Statement of Intent

During my first year I want to experiment with new media. I also want to build on and improve my skills with media I have previously used. My strengths are that I am well organised and have good time-keeping skills. My weakness is that I am easily distracted. I hope to gain a better understanding of where my practice sits within Viscom.
